lyrics

With the night song ep sandboy and nanar present the first offering taken from their forthcoming album.

Starting with the debut album "wanderlust" (hint003CD/DLP) of his solo project sandboy, Tobias Meggle has built up a musical universe, which has earned him the respect of many and not just colleagues in music. With infectious ease he blends Broken Beat with Afro- and Latin influences and dresses the result up in an ethereal sound-robe full of depth. His musical style has not only impressed listeners and the international press but also companions like Peter Kruder, LTJ Bukem and Makossa. And with seven sandboy releases on his own hinterland records it’s a success story that continues to grow.

A multitude of high class vocalists constantly play an important role for sandboy – Nanar Vorperian, Clara Hill, Randolph Matthews, Patrick Gammon or Nice Ferreira, to name but a small selection. But for the coming album Tobias Meggle has chosen another approach. Break Reform-Chanteuse Nanar Vorperian, who has already featured on tracks on "wanderlust" such as "written in the leaves" and "pomegranate", finds herself exclusively in the center-field of the new album – so the project is rightfully named as the collaboration that is, "sandboy and nanar". By the way, one further prelude to the album has already been announced – the second 12 inch will appear in autumn 2007.

night song (original)
"night song" unites again all of the sandboy trademark sounds: exotic instruments (balaphone) integrated in a sound-scape as natural as it is elegant, a luscious, intelligently grooving back-beat, flowing bass lines, horns and of course the voice of Nanar Vorperian. Dense choral voices are contrasted with floatingly sung melodies containing multi-facetted lyrics which culminate in one charming line: "remember - you need her - she is beautiful".

night song (J.J Webster Remix)
As one of the producers of Break Reform, J.J Webster is not just a long term associate of Nanar, but also an esteemed member of the hinterland-records family. He draws the groove out of a deep bass line with R&B drums and a trip-hop vibe. A piano pattern, strings and harp samples and above all a focus on Nanars chorus make this remix a very musical reworking and retain the song character.

night song (Yoruba Soul Mix)
This remix stems from none other than the american producer/DJ legend Osunlade. With releases, among others, on his own label Yoruba, Soul Jazz Records and BBE he is just the right choice to take those afro-vibes and transform them into a more clubby direction. The tempo is noticeably raised in the rolling deep house groove and combines perfectly with Nanars ever present vocals to make up all the right ingredients for a summer club experience...

night song (Yoruba Soul Dub)
Osunlades dub version uses but a few vocal elements and embeds them in driving percussion and string sounds. A slightly deconstructed deep house groove is also evident here highlighting the tune and makes it a hypnotic track, complete with spinning break-down part, ideal for those late hours on the dance floor.

All top quality stuff, the Osunlade Dub is absolutely amazing, a real killer! Pure deepness and totally hypnotic... it freaked everyone out. Definitely right up my street and will get plenty of spins out of this one.

Sandboy And Nanar - Night Song (Yoruba Soul Dub) - Hinterland Records
This is an amazing new Dub from Osunlade on Germany’s Hinterland Records. The Yoruba man does what he does best, snipping up the vocals into a neat hook and laying over the top of the warmest chords and finest house beats. The result is a ridiculously hypnotic and mesmerizing track that represents what deep house is all about right now. Serious quality.

...it’s a real beauty! (Dom Servini/Wah Wah 45s/Straight No Chaser)

Sandboy and Nanar’s "Night Song" is just wonderful, check the
J.J Webster Remix for pure deepness. 10/10

(Menno Jager/Sound of Swound)

Love the J.J. Webster Remix, it’s an ADD!!! Added it to the playlist this morning.
(Tom Webb/Chillout 2 New York)

I LOVE IT!!! I can't wait to her the full length.

... fantastic music. I do love all mixes but Osunlade did an amazin remix on it. For sure i’ll play in my radio show and chart as well.
(DJ Edground/Brazil)

The new sandboy&nanar-"night song" ep is excellent, really like it a lot esp. the j.j webster rmx and the yoruba soul dub one... played them both on my weekly radio show.

Regarding your new release, the beautiful voice of Nanar has remind me Summer is here as it communicates so much positive energy. So its funny the e.p. is actually called "Night song" because I personally see it as a very sunny release.
Hooking up with Mr. Osunlade is another great choice. The legendary producer seems to have moved on from his well known ultra organic percussive driven sounds and jumped into the more clubby rhythms. His two remixes are my favourite cuts on the e.p. I am really feeling those positive and danceable cuts and looking forward to testing them out at the club. Fresh and tight as usual!

When the new Hinterland CD arrived, my excpectations have been high, but (of course once again) have not been dissappointed. Great musicianship as ever from Sandboy. All versions of "Night Songs" are of high musical quality. The one for my sets is the Yoruba Soul Mix. Deep house as I love it!
(Ralf Gum/GOGO Music)

Really enjoyed the Yoruba vocals mix!
(Enrico Crivellaro/Volcov/Neroli)

It’s always a great day when I discover one of those carefully packaged Hinterland promo’s in the mailbox, as the label hasn’t let me down once. It’s good music, period. It’s no different this time with the Night Song EP.
After collaborating on Sandboy’s Wanderlust album, Nanar Vorperian of Break Reform fame decided to do a whole album with Tobias Meggle. And thus Sandboy And Nanar was born. The album will likely drop late 2007, but here’s the first single. Night Song is trademark Sandboy song - African balaphone percussion, soothing horn arrangements, gentle keyboard melodies and a beautiful voice. It sounds great on this EP but will no doubt sound even better in an album context.
The Osunlade remix on the other hand is 200% single material. In my opinon one of his best renditions, matching the level of his Put It On remix for Atjazz. It really is a kick ass house groover aiming straight for your feet. How he transforms the original is amazing. And who did that wonderful guitar solo!?
There’s two other mixes: first the Osunlade dub which sounds pretty different, but a bit monotonous so I prefer the vocal mix. And secondly a remix by Break Reform’s J.J. Webster, taking a very musical hiphop approach. Not a bad track, but it’s overshadowed by the allmighty Osunlade.
I like!

(Dirk Rumpff, OFFtrack radio)

Night Song ist die Granate!!!
(Martin Kratzenstein/chinchin records)

(Jan Siegmund/Department Deluxe)
